On October 24th, 2009, a triple-headed freight train left the Chama station for the climb up the 4% grade to Cumbres Pass. Along the way, spectators were treated to several types of rail operations. At the Lobato Trestle, weight restrictions forced each locomotive to cross separately. At Cresco, the train took on water. And at the summit of the pass, locomotive 489 was unhooked and turned around on the wye. 488 ran light to Osier, and 487 led the train of restored rolling stock to Osier. What a spectacular trip back in time!
