to be fair daigo hasn't played 3s seriously in years and i think momochi and nuki are still 3s players as well, so thoser 3 names aren't really 'gone' from the 3s scene as such, since daigo was alreadyu out and the other two still remain

fact: SFIV is played a lot more in japanese arcades than third strike. a lot of japanese players switched over to SFIV and are doing well too. Daigo, Nuki and Momochi to name a few.
