II:1
The use of a incorrect block.

Tafel 42
Ain Notstand für den Stich oben und unden.
(A Attackstance for the stab above and below.)

Tafel 37 linken
Vuz dem Tunrschlag ain werffen.
(From the Thunderstrike a throw.)

Here is how to utilize a incorrect parry of the Mortschlag. The man on the left has blocked the Mortschlag ststically, and the man on the right has closed in tightly and throws him.

  • this is precisely why, when blocking, it's also necessary to move offline of the attack. You can't just stand there.

  • Is it shown or said about that plate to grab the right leg?

Also, why did the tackled one drop his sword?

  • I respect totally the skill & effort that people are devoting to bring the Talhoffer martial art back - all the best in your endevers, what with MMA boxing & traditional Martial arts & Talhoffer I think we are living in a Golden age of martial arts.

    All the best

  • hmmm. Very nice. This almost looks like a high crotch takedown from freestyle wrestling except you don't go to the ground with the opponent (nor would really want to) and the right hand.

the takedown looks slightly different from the plate where the plate seems to have the attacker hook the defender's right knee with the left hand. Since you can't really see the right hand, it seems viable to use it to lever the left hip creating a powerful couple moment. Maybe a variation of a double leg
