Yes, the media can go over board especially when a young well known actor passes away suddenly. We were all in shock and looking for answers...I thank God for the ones who are in the media that give us news. Sometimes the news is twisted..but I did not see anything twisted about how people who cared for Heath Ledger honored him by placing their love at his door. To this day I wish I could set flowers at the "Twin Towers" perhaps one day I will get the chance. Is that wrong?

Not at all. The sentiment I'm expressing here is that your grief would have been turned into a commodity. The experience of wading through a press junket to get to something sacred transforms a person from themself into a kind of role play.

This wouldn't happen at the WTC today because people aren't staring at you.

Jack Nicholson was good as joker, some would probably say even great (I kind of felt he was corney). But Ledger was near perfect in my opinion.

Thank you for explaining your purpose.  Yes, mourning is sacred and intimate. People would not be able to be true to themselves during this time. Afraid to show their vulernability. Your right.
