In the early morning of July 16th, 2011 a loaded WB BNSF grain train hit a washout and derailed. Both units and 17 cars went on the ground, and took out both mains, and a bridge in the process. In this video, we get a look of how the derailment was about 10 hours after it happened. As you can see, BNSF was sucking up all of the corn it could from the derailed cars. Both crew members survived the derailment, and walked away from it.

  • did this happen between osbourne and mississippi st.? Nice Job recording this one with the very hot heat!

  • @eddieg749 Yep, it was just north of Mississippi St.

  • Glad you were able to get that footage Douglas, I wasn't able to make it out there in time. The weird thing about your video is that the river gives it an overall peaceful feeling, when in reality it was a devastating event. Great video. Plus the fact that it was probably around a 100' out that day too.

  • @bnsfrailnut Thanks! It was VERY hot when I shot this, and muggy too. I felt bad for the guys working out there, especially the welder with that jacket on.

  • Nice video!

  • good shootin there SD457500!!!!!

  • OH, really nice video, almost forgot while blowing my own horn, sorry.

  • The derail was north of Savanna IL, just outside of the northern part of SOD..Savanna Ordinance Depot! Another interesting place to visit...

The panoramio I mentioned is here photosynth dot .net Youtube does not allow full web info to be posted, just look for postal67 and it should take you to the site, I got other train related stuff there, and ThePostal67 on the youtube site.

  • Saw the derail at Blandings Landing in NW Illiinois on the BNSF, took a few pictures and posted them on Photosynth. You have to have Silverlight from Microsoft to view, it is a 180 degree view and you just use the mouse to move the picture... Felt sorry for those guys too, 96 degrees and humdity above 80%...Minutes later before I could grab my movie camera three NS came south though the area...There was very heavy flooding in the area, some creeks looked as though it got to be 30/40 deep

  • @SD457500 i couldnt imagine welding this week.

  • ALOT of corn.
