Today's top story is Bon Secours Health System is the second member owner to invest in the for-profit organization Innovation Institute.
On October 24, 2013 in a joint press release, Bon Secours Health System and The Innovation Institute announced that Bon Secours Health System is now the second member owner of the Innovation Institute.
The founding member is St. Joseph Health in Orange County California.
The Innovation Institute is a healthcare provider of innovation solutions, business process services and investment management services to hospitals and health systems.
According to Rich Statuto CEO of Bon Secours Health System, "When we reviewed the (Innovation Institute) business model, it became clear that our health system could benefit immensely from the valuable resources that The Institute offers.
As member owners, our healthcare system and our patients will benefit from shared research and development of new products and services."
The Innovation Institute is structured to be owned exclusively by seven founding non-profit organizations supported by three self-sustaining primary business units:
(i) the Innovation Lab, an incubator for new, disruptive breakthrough solutions. The Innovation Lab is in alliance with Cleveland Clinic Innovations;
(ii) the Enterprise Development Group, a group of shared services offering high-quality, cost-effective solutions; and,
(iii) the Growth Fund, a portfolio of investments in emerging businesses and assets.
According to The Innovation Institute CEO Joe Randolph, "We have set out to fundamentally alter the way hospitals think about their business assets and strategic relationships.
We are pleased that Bon Secours Health System has joined us in this unique endeavor focused on progressive health."

In other news, the Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss Center in the Hampton Roads area has been recognized by the Surgical Review Corporation, as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence.
Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss Center is part of the Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.
In addition to receiving this great news for the Center, we also learned that Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss Center physician Elizabeth Salzberg achieved the prestigious designation of Surgeon of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Leahy has been serving as interim CEO at Charity where she demonstrated her keen leadership abilities.
