On Friday 18 December 2009, world leaders arrived in Copenhagen to hammer out a deal to protect our climate. They failed. What Barack Obama and the other leaders produced was far from the fair, ambitious and legally binding treaty so desperately needed to avoid a complete breakdown in our climate.

Immediately after the results of the negotiations were announced, Kumi Naidoo, executive director of Greenpeace International, appeared at a press conference organised by the Climate Action Network (of which Greenpeace is a member) and explained how badly our leaders have failed us.

  • I'm sorry murrman33, but unfortunately there is no "co2 fraud". I don't know if you recieved an education, but I learnt at middle school that when you burn a carbon based fuel, one of the products of the reaction is carbon dioxide. I also learnt that our atmosphere, which insulates the earth by trapping radiated heat, is partly made up of carbon dioxide. The science is simple- the more carbon dioxide we release through burning fuels, the hotter it gets. The clock is already ticking.

  • Finally, somebody with sense comments on here! You are very correct in what you say. =P

  • so unussual but it's kinda amazing…

  • Vote with your dollars. Support businesses that you know and trust. i dream of a deep city experience where sunlight is the power source and beautiful green gardens hang from the rooftops all around you. May your children always be able to pick fresh fruit with the backdrop of an oxygen blue sky.

  • thank you for speaking "straight talk". regardless of the causes, which people dispute, the changes are happening. let us not fight over faults but get active with the solutions...turn off the tube, turn out the light, carpool, ride a bike, support your local family farms, grow a garden, capture rain, volunteer locally and uplift our assets. Education and solution seeking is key. Try stopping in on your own local City Hall meetings, write a letter or call your representative.

  • I feel so sorry for you kids who actually believe in Man-made Global Warming. Can't you see they are just using fear tactics to scare you? Their goal is to extort money from your parents (taxes) and take their & your hard earned money & give it to a 3rd world dictator who is blackmailing them with the threat of cutting down a tree. I promise you that the earth will be just fine. Five years this whole mess will be proven a scam -- ClimateGate emails were just the beginning.

  • Lol. I really want to see the world ten years from now.

  • Greenpeace should explain climate change in a very easy way so that everybody can understand it. If we do nothing about it it wil become worse.

  • The problem is that it is inconvenient for corporations and governments for climate change to be happening. If it were happening, it would screw up their economy, which has a large basis in fuel prices, and rapid consumerism. So in order to keep their profits up, they spread misinformation about climate change, claiming it is all a hoax. There are bound to be a minority of dishonest people within any large group of people, but I believe the majority of the scientists are telling us the truth.
