Lifelong wildlife campaigner Bob Irwin, father of the late Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter, talks about the situation with Australian wildlife as he sees it. He worries about the push for a big Australia, about the pressure on our environment if the population increases too much. Bob says that all levels of Australian government do not take our environment seriously enough, but that we can't expect government to fix everything. He urges conservationists and corporations to work together to address the issues. Bob is not against mining or development, but he says we have to do it better.

  • Of Course Bob, you're spot on. All our leaders are urbane. They think floods are a disaster but to those in tune with the cycles of our climate saw them as a time to build canoes and as an opportunity for feast and harvest. Our leaders see raging bushfires as a disaster and do not see them as being a product of their own neglect and disconnection with the land. To the Aborigines, fire had multiple uses and benefits. We can live safely in homes amongst the gumtrees if we make fire a friend again.

  • Bob, don't get involved with the Australian greens political party, in the next decades, fear will be instilled into them. All l can say is, deep hatred is building for that political party!
