Yemen is facing serious economic problems after ten months of anti-government protests and fighting.
The country was deeply impoverished even before the latest unrest and with rising prices of food, gas, and water, the poor are getting desperate.
Jane Ferguson reports from the capital, Sanaa.
The fatalism of islam is a big part of the problem

My heart goes out to the people of Yemen...it is always regular citizens who suffer the brunt of war while the criminals profit.

@arfanullah Yeah right. As if that compares to wife beating, child molesting, thieving, low life behavior of the rich arabs.

@flyguyinmotion so does that make americans scum or its government? same can be said for saudi arabia.

@arfanullah U.S. has a very corrupt political system now. Eisenhower warned of it in his farewell address. It's a big part of the occupy protests going on now as well.

@flyguyinmotion well look at mexico people that live there live like shit and right next door is the richest country in the world.
arfanullah 2 months ago
@flyguyinmotion Yes, gulf countries are the richest country. However, you can still find people like these poor people in Saudi Arabia. Unemployment rates are 10.8% (2010 est.) CIA. Fact Book. We in Saudi Arabia suffer from the injustice, inequality in income, poverty, unemployment and the lack of the freedom of speech and the list goes on and on. I'm sorry but we are not scum, people who are ruling us are the real scum. i.e The Royal vampires (Royal family) the steelers and the killers.

@TheEsotericDesi The people who are applying the Islamic laws is the reason, not Islam itself. In the dark ages Europe's Kings & the Church were using the Christianity as a tool to achieve their own goals, so do we blame the Christianity? of Course no. Islam and its laws can't be really applied by anyone. As a Shia Muslim I believe that Ahlulbayt are the only ones who can apply the Islamic laws, because they were selected by Allah through his prophet Mohammad Peace be upon him and his households
