ESA: European Space Agency

With the first flight of the launch vehicle Ariane in 1979 a consortium of European firms began exploiting commercial space travel. Ariane was developed for satellite transport. By the end of 1999 the five different versions of the launch vehicle had carried over 70 satellites for research and communication into space. Ariane-5 was developed during the 1990's and will gradually take over as the workhorse launch vehicle.

  • I hope their would be an new race not to the moon but to mars the ESA would be an candidate. with the americans with some problems (space shuttle, budget) Russia who is less powerfull then 50 years ago and China. It would be good for the development of new technologies

  • support cnes

  • Support project icarus!

  • @baillou2 What? Nasas budget isn't more than it has ever been.

Just more than it has been in a while.

  • @RobertsDigital A private American organization. I guarantee it. And FYI NASA's budget is more than it has ever been. Their problem is lack of vision. I personally don't care much what NASA does anymore. The future is "new space" as it's being called now.

  • @schuf1 No, you're wrong. It's neither NASA nor ESA. It's the private space industry. I adore any successful rocket launch and wish all nations good luck, but when you look at what Spacex is doing you can't help but think every other piece of hardware will be rendered obsolete within 5 years. Elon Musk actually said just that (more or less). And he's not one to get cocky at press conferences.

  • Vive Arianespace et le CNES !

  • This is not European Union who pays that, this is not European Union who built ESA, this is Nations and scientific cooperation. UE will crash down, we will leave it and continue to push science. WE ARE OUT OF MONEY CAUSE OF EUROPEAN UNION. But I hope this fall will reborn Europe of power: we must coop with Russia and may be India to go to mars.

  • @schuf1 NASA is out of money......

The European Union has more than enough money for space exploration, Including Russia,Japan and China

The US is heavily in debt.

Now the question is who will be the first to put a man on Mars?

  • I like turtles. Greetings from the European Union.
