Behind a façade of proposed economic progress and democracy lies a country with deep roots in its military history.

The military is one of the country's only growth industries. In the past decade, it has more than doubled from 200,000. Despite the overwhelming popular support for democracy campaigners, led by Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma's generals have kept their strong hold on the nation's business. With only 8 of the 30 government ministers being non-military, they control most aspects of society. "Having friends in high Places is the only way to do business in Burma," admits a successful Australian entrepreneur. His business partner is the son of a senior Burmese military leader. Meanwhile, the government refuses to acknowledge and amend its appalling human rights record.

Aung San Suu Kyi is Burma's true leader! She won the 1990 election by an overwhelming majority. Than Shwe and these other losers are an illegitimate government and a petty, worthless dictatorship. Their legacy is simple: they're all GARBAGE and history will judge them accordingly!
