In this video I, FM Ingvar Johannesson, try something new. I seek games against players rated 600-1200 points lower and try to talk about which mistakes they make. Let me know how you like this format in the comments.

  • what is your name and rating on playchess?

  • @azeriradio zibbit4, 2450ish

  • Nice idea and a good video. Perhaps viewers would appreciate a more standard opening from you from the White side from time to time? The English is pretty uncommon. Keep it up!

  • @padperson English is very trendy these days because of the Marin books. I'll consider it if I do more videos like this but against players around my strength I will play "my" openings ;-)

  • nice idea!!!!

  • Its good idea and please keep it up. It's funny to watch you try to spot when they make mistakes but you simply outplay them in strenght so even if they won't make mistakes you still win brutally haha.

  • I definitely like this format. I used to challenge higher rated people just so I could see my games in retrospect since I don't learn much from challenging similarly rated opponents. Giving us your plans on how to exploit an amateur's weaknesses is a great way to help me avoid those weaknesses in my play.

  • I think this format is instructive since my playing strength is about 1500 on PlayChess/1600 on ChessCube and I like seeing the "bird's eye" analysis.

The only problem is that the audio lags behind the game sometimes. I'm not sure if that happens for everyone. The audio also fades out a little during the video.

  • what a great idea

i actually find the videos you do against amateurs to be just as instructive as your games against players around your skill. for example the first series of games on ChessCube you posted on cvtv were very nice thanks!
