Ben Stein is recent comments about unemployed have gotten him into a bit of heat.

Stein said "The people who have been laid off and cannot find work are generally people with poor work habits and poor personalities. I say "generally" because there are exceptions. But in general, as I survey the ranks of those who are unemployed, I see people who have overbearing and unpleasant personalities and/or who do not know how to do a day's work. They are people who create either little utility or negative utility on the job. Again, there are powerful exceptions and I know some, but when employers are looking to lay off, they lay off the least productive or the most negative. To assure that a worker is not one of them, he should learn how to work and how to get along — not always easy"

Most people familiar with Ben Stein only know him as a the 'dry' pitchman for Clear Eyes, the teacher from 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' or the host of 'Win Ben Stein's Money'. However, in his past, he was a speech writer for Richard Nixon. Stein is a staunch conservative and an anti-evolutionist as well. He starred in the 2008 pro-creationism movie "Expelled". Stein was also a columnist at the New York Times. However, Stein was fired from his position as a Sunday Business columnist in August 2009 due to a policy forbidding writers from performing product endorsements or advertising. Stein was an advertising spokesperson for credit information company.

  • ~~^~^~^~^~^^^^^^^^^^ BEN STEIN, the monumental I D I O T, that went around telling AMERICANS to vote for GEORGE BUSH JR, because he felt BUSH was a friend to isreal......

  • @balkanchild How many years of crony capitalism do you want? We need someone who can support the economy. His foreign policy will reduce the chances of blowbacks. If some hobo were to live with you (uninvited), you will probably give them some blowbacks. Blowbacks are serious threats to national security, as well as, a declining economy.

  • Ok... so these people are taking shots at Ben... because he's right? Seriously?

  • Stupid fucking liberal channel... This is how the world was meant to work with jobs, and I knew you guys were liberal because ALL liberals are fucking retarded!

  • @offstride1

so because he has 28 books and 5 Emmy's, that means he is accurate in his views? LOL.

  • @USStateSponTerrorism Ron Paul has no moral backbone when it comes to political policy, no thanks. He excels on nothing but economic policy.

  • @poindexterwitkowsky And I'm sure he regrets it, no one can foresee the future. But who are the bigger idiots? Obama or Bush voters? I'm sticking to my guns on this one and saying Obama since we can only be "inspired" for so long on empty rhetoric.

  • When are people going to stop calling W. "Jr"? He isn't a Jr.

  • TYT is the pit bottom of liberal reporting, and Im a liberal. They fall down to the depths of "reporting" that FOX news enjoys rooting around in them. The fact of the matter is, that Ben is right. The only exception would be in a Union, and even that doesnt always afford the security that it used to.

Do some homework and when you've done as many incredible things like Ben Stein, maybe then you'll be able to stand around in your pink robe

  • What has Ben Stein ever done? Poverty lawyer, trial lawyer, taught libel law and United States securities law and its ethical aspects as a professor. Political, investment, and economic columnist. Author of 28 books. Stein has that on his resume too Turk. Do your homework kid and don't forget his 5 Emmy Awards.
