The long and the short of it, if you fancy having a go at 8mm moving film making, you're better off with a Super 8 camera, like the Minolta XL401.

Film and processing is readily available, and the cameras themselves are simpler to use, just get one which uses two AA's or similar, to power both the motor and light meter.
