  • The language is called Aramaic, the people Aramean. They are a semitic tribe who lived in the begining in Upper-Mesopotamya in the north. There were many tribes, Assyrians, Hittits, Sumerean, Amorits,Chaldean and Fenician, living in the same area. The Assyrians became more powerful in the region, they spoke Akkadean first, but most people in the region spoke Aramean. So they all spoke Aramean.
