    It is a rebel song, it was certainly written as one. I don't believe the bluebells meant it as one.

    I'm never sure. The original version by Dominic Behan sounds like a rebel song. Some of the lyrics have got changed over time. I think that Harvey Andrews's version was quite influential, and he was definitely not an Irish rebel.
