This is my contest entry to (singing) "MSMONNIEE baby" Throw Back Remember When Contest!

Prior to coming on camera, I "crimped" my hair (by way of a twist-out) and pinned it back (with a hot roller clip from Dollar General) for body and waves i.e. Jody Watley, Karyn White, etc. This video is "giving much respect due" to my older sisters and family members that influenced my early makeup looks. They wore heavy black eyeliner under their eyes and rubbed lipstick on their cheeks as blush. I was "smacking" on a piece of "Wrigley's Double Mint Gum" (Dollar General) that I would have purchase for 25-cents at the penny candy store or just took it from my sister's room or purse back-in-the-day. The turtleneck that I wore came from a thrift shop (Another reference to my older sisters' style because they always wore turtlenecks and V-neck, cable knit sweaters or Wind-breaker tracksuits that they pressed with an iron. It was way too hot to put on a jacket or sweater and that turtleneck as a matter-of-fact because I did this video with a fan blowing on me LOL). Then, I applied my "ChapStick"-like product or "OraLabs Chap-Ice Cherry Lip Balm" (from Dollar General) to my lips. Finally, I used a baby wipe (brought at the dollar store or drugstore) as my "Noxzema"-like product to clean my skin. I would have played my custom recorded mixtape from the radio with my "jams", but I couldn't find my cassette player (I couldn't believe I found an actual tape :-O).

On camera, I applied "Equate Astringent" (Walmart) used as a "Sea Breeze"-like product with a moistened cotton ball (Big Lots) to freshen my skin. Then, I applied 100% Petroleum Jelly (Dollar General) or "Vaseline"-like product to my skin as a "moisturizer" (what was my family thinking back-in-the-day SMH LOL).

I began with my eyes using the "L.A. Colors" eyeshadow quad in "Truffles" (Dollar General) with its applicator. I "smeared" all four of the golden or neutral colors on my eyes from the palette (I didn't know how to apply eyeshadows or what a quad or palette was "way-back-when"). Then, I lined my under eye area with a black kohl eyeliner from "Wet n Wild" in "651" (drugstore).

You asked for a "full face" so I hooked you up, "homegirl"; (singing) "MSMONNIEE baby" LOL! On my face while using a makeup wedge sponge, I applied "L'Oreal's True Match Super -Blendable Makeup" in the color "Soft Sable C6" (Target). Also I used the cosmetic sponge that came with the powder compact (Target) in the same shade with the mirror to set the foundation. Of course, this color did not match my skin because there weren't many shades available to women-of-color back-in-the-day (shame on you, cosmetic companies for leaving WOC hangin' like that SMH). Using the blush brush applicator that came with the blush compact, I applied "Posner Natural Finish Blush" in "Terra Cotta" (Dollar General) to the apples of my cheeks.

For my lips, I lined them heavily with the same WnW black eye pencil that I used previously. Then, I applied a bright red lipstick from "L.A. Colors" in the color "Cherry Red" (Dollar General). For my "gloss", I used the "Vaseline"-like product again because we didn't use lipgloss back then.

Finally, I applied "Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara" in "Blackest Black" (Walmart) to my lashes. "Great Lash" was the first mascara that I've ever used and I still use it. I would have set the look off with some silver hoops or gold door knocker, "bamboo earrings at least two pair" LOL!

So this is my contest entry and information about what inspired the "look" for (singing) "MSMONNIEE baby"! I really had a lot of fun doing this look and reminiscing over some of the things some of us did back when... we didn't know any better SMH LOL! Also this has shown me how much I have learned from the Internet and especially YouTube. Even though, I still do use mostly dollar store and some drugstore makeup. Thank you to everyone that shares their skills in makeup tutorials on YouTube! Now, let me go see what the other entries look like while I listen to some "Video Soul" with Donnie Simpson (didn't he just have the dreamiest eyes... BET is just not the same *sad face*), then LMBO while watching some "In Living Color" and then "Martin". Thank you for watching and rating my video... I'm out, peace!

*Please rate my videos and thank you in advance!* "Rating is so important...Its easy. Its fast. Not only does it not cost you a thing, it is your way of saying thank you for the FREE videos we work so hard to produce for you lovely people!"

  • @sassyvixen32 Thank you :-). You are all right, I just thought it was a little bit strange to associate "very cute" to this look (still dealing with bad makeup memories LOL), but again thank you :-)!
