its funny how that has come to be derogatory
but it shows you what america has become
hard work has become a put down

Always liked this song, Marty. I saw you perform it in a nightclub in Ashville, NC. It was just as good live. You had the english guy playing lead at the time. Amazing musician. I was returning from Nashville (was on an independent record label at the time). You let me come on your bus and sat with us for a while in the club. Memorable....

The oft-derogatory term "redneck" stems from individuals who literally sported a red neck from sunburns, presumably from a hard day's work in the lumber, cattle or farming trade. It was later used to describe striking coal miners who wore red bandannas around their necks as a sign of pride and solidarity. As someone who grew up on a farm in the coal-mining state of West Virginia and knows full well the value of a hard day's work, I whole-heartedly consider myself a redneck.
