THE LOVE OF MY LIFE

The love of my life was only a whisper
A slight ripple of air, an almost silent sigh
The love of my life came so close beside me
I could almost touch him, as he breathed with me
Saw through me, almost standing by my side

Almost, but not quite
We were just out of reach
We tried for each other
But just couldn't see
How to stand face to face
How to truly be real
So step by step we back away
Nail on nail, the coffin is sealed

It seems we're letting go
Losing hope, giving up
It seems what bound us close
Is becoming forgotten now
Our love

That once burned so strong
Is now fading from view
And now I stand alone
When once all I felt beside me was you

If a love like that can falter
Can stumble, can fall
How can I go on to believe
That soulmate love exists at all?

Maybe this planet
No such treasure can hold
No such ecstacy, no such entwining
Two hearts to one, just cannot mould

Maybe the only place for that
Is in the moon among the stars
On journeys of imagination
In playrooms, in idyllic places, located somewhere afar

Far, far away
Where rainbows shine on
Where pure hearts can survive
Where we can live as one

The love of my life came to me from nowhere
Took over my heart, became my all
But just as suddenly, he left, he faded away
Maybe the truth is, he was never really here at all.
