Level 1 of Project Breakout, created by David Smith.
Project Breakout is a high-quality, visually appealing, and very fun breakout clone. I set out to develop a breakout clone that was unlike others, and much more FUN. Everyone who has tried this game tells me it is the most enjoyable, difficult and addictive 2D action game they have played. And no one I know of has ever beaten it, not even myself. The challenge is high, and while you may never beat its 12 levels, you will always come back to Project Breakout, just trying once again to get to that next level. Here are the reasons why this game different and more enjoyable than other Breakout clones:
The ball speed is faster than in most Breakout games. You only get 10 lives per level, and I guarantee you will need almost all of them to complete the later levels.
The paddle is mouse-controlled. This makes for a much more fun experience than otherwise.
There are no power-ups or other falling objects to capture with the paddle, and no scoring system. This is natural because it is hard enough to hit the ball itself, and you will have to deal with multiple balls in some levels. There may only be 12 levels, but I assure you that the content is more action-packed, fun and refreshingly addictive than a standard breakout clone with 50 or more similar levels.
The shape of the paddle is curved, not flat as in most breakout clones, so you can impact the direction the ball bounces.
The graphics and music are top-notch. You can see alpha blending, particle effects, and a futuristic theme, and listen to the immersive techno music.
The physics engine is of high quality.
Certain objects have the ability to move through each other.
Multiple balls are featured. The even more interesting feature is the use of multiple paddles at different locations, which you will control simultaneously in the later levels. This raises the difficulty, and forces you to think two-dimensionally.
