Bost Hospital, Lashkar Gah, an 8 year old girl suffering from severe burns in to the paediatrics ward, has only paracetamol for a painkiller as there is no access to more effective drugs such as morphine and codeine.

While in western hospitals morphine is regarded as the only effective drug to manage the extreme pain.

Highlighting the problems caused by the lack of opium derivatives such as morphine and codeine in countries such as Afghanistan.

The International Council on Security and Development (ICOS) is an international policy think tank with offices in Brussels, Kabul, London, Ottawa, Paris, and Rio.
