SG-38 vintage glider from 1944. The glider is launched by a Saab 900 at Ekeby airfield Eskilstuna Sweden. The first pilot is doing a B-diploma course and its getting launched to 200-250m. Yes we do still fly whit this glider on regular basis. And we have A-diploma and B-diploma flying lesions. All wee need is calm whether and some students. Its great fun to feel the wind in your face sitting on a small wooden stool 250m in the air. Visit www.efk.nu for more info

Filmed with a mobile N95 phone taped to the airplane.

  • How is it launched? Is the rope a giant bungee cord? Is it attached to a winch?

  • It´s launched with a 300m long rope that's attached to a car a Saab 900, you se it for a short moment on the video. And it drives around 55km/h

  • Hello Al, yes its clowdy and no termals. We have tried to take termals with the SG-glider, and have stayd up for 15 min or so. We have even built an instrument panel with a variometer in it.

One of the old farts in the gliding club, he has flown a similar glider for 5 hours! But that was a log time ago,

    1955 or so.

  • I had the opportunity to fly this SG-38 in 2002. Never released the cord to the car, but it was an experience to fly that "fart" ;)

  • search Airchair Goat on Google and U tube

  • great vid....

  • Its cludy there isn´t it? I wonder if thermals could help to increase fliyng time? wich is your record? I have a full scale set of pplans for this glider but aditional info is sadly lacking, internal structure tri dimentional drawings could help to plan interpretation so.. do you know some book on SG 38 building ore something that could help?

    Thanking in advance,

    Al
