Personally, I think FMA, for instance, was better in the dubbed version. You don't have to be a "jackass" to hold that opinion, as far as I know. I usually prefer subs, but a good dub sounds less like a translation and more like an English conversation. Sometimes, subs make the mistake of trying to be too literal in their translations, and they lose the sense or feeling of what the character was trying to say.

Sometimes it's better to translate what they've said into something that sounds right in English rather than try to be perfectly literal to the Japanese. That's not 'screwing up the lines' or anything; that's called 'translating.' Ask anybody who's ever tried to translate poetry--or anything where the 'sense' or 'feel' was more important (or just as important) as the 'meaning.'
I agree that making it more PG-13 sucks, though--in the dialogue *and* the action.

Yeah, I agree with Silver.

well ur right about dubs and only idiots would say a dub is better than the original in most cases. There are very few anime series with any amount of decent English dubs cos it takes money, time and skill.

I have to disagree Trigun is one of the only animes that I've seen where I saw the english dub, then the japanese dub and I fully believe that the voice for Vash was soooo much better.

Technically, anti-americanism is not racism, but xenophobia. :)

Yes, they were. :/ But I didn't feel like making new subtitles.
