http://AviationExplorer.com/airline_aviation_ads/Aviation_Airline_Ads_Page_1.htm - This footage was sent to us by an Ex TWA pilot who was filming the last few Lockheed L1011 Airliners that flew into Missouri in 1997. These Jets were retired by TWA as many new "Twin" engine aircraft could do the exact same job with less fuel consumption.
@sparrowlt From what I've read the L-1011 was harder to maintain than the DC-10.. but it was, indeed, safer.

Ahhh.. the lovely L-1011..my favorite airliner.. too bad there is none today doing pax service... It was quite an unfair history.. it was technically and reliability superior to the DC-10 (the proof is that no L-1011 crashed due to mechanical failure and on those who crashed due to weather or pilot error there were survivors (except that Saudia flight but that wasnt a crash and all people died due to the pilots incompetence handling evacuation)

I flew TWA from SFO-JFK-CDG-ZUR on a L-1011. I had to transfer at JFK, but stayed on the same L-1011 from JFK to ZUR. Always enjoyed TWA - it was my first jet airline flight in 1968 on a 707.

My only flight on an L-1011 was in 1986 on TWA from Denver to St. Louis. I cherish that experience after flying on so many DC-10s. Sorry I didn't get to fly on more L-1011s. I miss them.

I love the L-1011 and I love TWA.. I'd give up so many things just to see one of those things fly again. Thanks for sharing. :)
