Just great, now I don't know which Kilt I should wear to the Highland Games!

This is our visit over to western North Carolina to see the Scottish Tartan Museum.

It rained the entire week we were in the mountains, but we had so much fun in Franklin, Dillsboro, and Highlands.

We saw the Gem and Mineral Museum (See Rock Your World) and the Gem Panning and of course shopping! (See Jan's new Purse ha ha)

  • Should I do McLean or McMillian- how would i decide?

  • I am not sure, but they can tell you at the museum.

  • Now that's beautiful countryside you are driving past.

  • It was a wonderful trip. We cut back down through Copperhill Tn on the way to Jack daniels place ha, awesome area.

  • Hi Dan. I am glad to tell you that you actually do have a connection to Clan MacLeod. The name McCoig is a spelling variation of McCaig. Your family belonged to Clan McLeod of Harris and Skye. If you contact the clan McLeod im shure they would add you to there ranks. : ) Cheers!

  • Thanks BWolc, we always get a spirited debatre and conversation over anything to do with the UK. Check out the comments on our Castle video Oh My.. Ha, but thank you for your kind remarks

  • Great little video! I think most people don't have a clan, so don't feel bad. Nice ending shot of bridal Veil falls, too. :-D

  • good video.....now I know more about Scottish clans than I knew before

  • Hello -- not sure why my earlier post vanished but to answer your question, McCoig (or MacCoig) is a listed sept of Clan Mackay. If you go to the Clan Mackay Society USA website & look up their septs, you'll find MacCoig listed there. Good luck!

  • Their are still Clans and Chiefs but it is more out of ceremonial benefit and most aren't even in Scotland. That's not always to say you are directly part of a Clan Due to your last name but your ancestors where part of one at some point maybe even taking on the last name for safety. I don't know why people get upset at Americans seeking out their roots at least they take an interest in our culture and separate us from the rest of the UK.

  • Interesting. One thing to remember about Scottish and Irish clans is one they where not all clans some where septs of clans and two very importantly lots of names where misspelled when finally written down due to the names being Gaelic and the records being Scots or English. EG. McCoy and MacKie came from the same origin but accents effected their spelling.

  • Yes! that is what he meant, how did you know. Theres also a club for Americans that ride Harley-Davidson Mototcycles. what a cowinky dink!
