  • it should remain an octet, with more instruments it becomes a goulash.

  • rushed? Hardly. Mendelssohn is said to have favoured very quick tempi. Whats more, the scherzo is a jocular and spirited form, especially in its Mendelssohnian incarnation (in 2, spiccato and staccato prevalent). However, I do agree that the octet is better played by an octet. It lends itself better to the light texture that Mendelssohn is famous for.

  • Love the octet, but it should be kept that way. Sounds messy and rushed when played by a chamber orchestra.

  • so rushed!!! i cant enjoy it!
