(Sacramento) The California State Assembly today passed three pieces of urgency legislation to help California avoid a cash crisis that would have seen the State Controller issuing IOUs for the states required payments beginning July 2. The urgency bills, passed with bipartisan support, provide as much as $4 billion in immediate cash solutions for the state until August. Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) said, These immediate savings will avoid a summer cash crisis and prevent the need for issuing IOUs. While I am pleased we have found a way to avoid this crisis, it does not remove the urgency of the legislature and the governor needing to agree to solutions that fix the budget quickly in a responsible, balanced way.
