Freed S. Little passed away December 30, 2007.
A member of a pioneer western Arkansas family, his parents were the late Dr. Jess Edward and Floy Witt Little of Ft. Smith. His paternal grandfather, John Sebastian Little, was a long-time U.S. Congressman and Governor of Arkansas.
He was born in Ft. Smith Arkansas on May 4, 1926, grew up there, graduating from Ft. Smith Sr. High in 1944. Enlisted as an Aviation Cadet in the Army Air Corps upon graduation and upon discharge attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he graduated January 1950. Little had lived in Houston since 1960 -- 67 and 1974 -- 2004, spending the past 3 years in San Antonio.
Most of his professional career was as a Petroleum Marketing Equipment executive at Gilbarco, Inc. having retired in 1990. Gilbarco is a worldwide petroleum equipment manufacturing company. For over 90 years it was a wholly-owned subsidiary of EXXON Corp.
He held various management positions with Gilbarco during his career, his last assignment being Western/Pacific Regional Manager based in Houston. In 1985 he was the recipient of their President's Award, Gilbarco, Inc.s highest award.
Little was a member of the American Petroleum Institute, and the Petroleum Equipment Institute and was listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance & Industry, and Who's Who in The South & Southwest for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion.
At the University of Arkansas he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and was named a Founder Member by that group.
After retirement, he founded, and was currently President of Little & Associates, Inc., a management consulting firm in Houston.
He also served several terms on the Board of Directors of the Post Oak Family YMCA, Houston. In recent years Little was a major investor in Tex-Quip Holdings, Inc., a petroleum marketing equipment distributorship based in Irving, TX. Little also served on the Board of Directors of Wall Street Services, Inc. and Waterhouse Financial Management, Inc. the latter two companies headquartered in San Antonio, TX. He was also a member of the Houston City Club.
Survivors include his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter in San Antonio, TX.. and his brother Jess Edward Little, Jr. in Los Alamos, CA.
Private grave-side services will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions in his memory to www.BrightHope.org or Partner of Youth (c/o Post Oak Family YMCA, 1331 Augusta, Houston, TX 77057).
