You all know whats missing - Hughs guitars nagging at you from the outskirts. euroman 30 years on is a bearuocratic nightmare. you cant shit in a bush without being branded a predator. this shit is like a lover regretting her casting ouit her soulmate after a tiff so sad you fucked it up.. you never recovered from the loss of hugh dredge all the archives you can legally grab- you lost your soul when hugh called your bluff. jett thank you for opening my eyes im not a wage slave
They wrote songs of such quality back then that they discarded as not good enough - songs that most other bands would have been happy to use . IMO the BEST British band EVER .
Another that is under rated and maybe should have been used - Social Secs . Became Yellowcake UF6 as a B-side to Nuclear Device . I wonder what other material from 1978/79 lies around deemed not good enough .
This is actually a solo JJ Burnel demo not a Stranglers one, and this one one of a bunch of songs which was intended as a second solo album following Euroman Cometh. When the project was abandoned The Stranglers used the melody and Hugh wrote some new lyrics and became the track "How to find true love and happiness in the present day" on the 1982 album La folie.
I think "younger" folk don't realise the whole European thing. These were the days before the Berlin Wall met Tommy Walsh and being "european" was risque to say the least. And how euro is this? And the album it eventually ended up on?

It's fantastic to follow the development of a song from humble beginnings like this to the full-blow Stranglers track it became.

interesting how much this changed. basic rythm and bass stayed in, but not much else.
