how does hydrogen fusing together produce helium?
-
@Moyo2k the sun is powered by electricity
-
I have a big knife, but I don't think it's boiling point is below 27 million degrees farenheight LOL
-
if i have to listen to one more student say the sun is going to explode or something, im going to kill them. lol
-
your explaination about ionized gas is correct, but still incomplete, there are several unproved theories as to WHY the gas in the corona is ionized, I think the leading one is to do with the sun's magnetic field

Wikipedia isnt a reliable source. All the information i have acquired is from Niel F Comins University of Maine and WIlliam J. Kaufmann from San Diego University but nonetheless cool video! :)

Welllll....some suns 'do' explode (and become supernovae). Others simply begin expanding (when the hydrogen and the helium run out). Anyway, hope your students the clip useful!

The core temp is 15,500,000 K and its takes 170,000 not a million years for photons to ecape and the Corona is hotter than the photo and chromosphere because the Corona contains ionized gases (electrons are stripped off the atoms). The Corona contains Fe XIV which appears in the Coronal Spectrum. This was discovered around 1940

Thanks for your comment.
According to Wikipedia, "estimates of the 'photon travel time' range from as much as 50 million years to as little as 17,000 years."
