it is funny our perception humanity as 'the eyes of Earth'.
we are watching the wind blow the hairs on a dogs back as if we are flees.
as I ponder this concept of far traveling cosmic rays it strikes me that this is likely a form of circulation that we are detecting on a very macro scale.
somewhat like finding out that we do indeed sit in a cosmic soup.
thank you very much for this upload series.

BUT WHAT DO THEY DO?

@zhhyr It's not voltage. It's called electron volt which is a measure of energy exactly like Joule is a measure of energy and calorie or calory is a measure of energy. Volt is a measure of potential.

Real science. Incredible voltages !
If a grape were enlarged to the size of earth, THAT'S how small a single particle is. Imagine that as having the punching power of a baseball pitched in the major leagues !!! Completely astounding physics !
Natural powers on earth are microscopic in comparison.
The most violent of, earth's calamities can only be described as a gnat flying into a blue whale's ass. Only millions of times lesser.
The folks at East Anglia University should be so humbled !

@ytmoog, correction the most powerful gamma rays, based on their origin and the power drop off as distance increases, suggest another source than black holes. I believe these gamma rays are produced when whole galaxies reach the speed of light which then transform the matter into pure energy E; see Inflation theory & E=mc². This is conjecture, I know.
Dan Winters has this all figured out in his DNA studies. These particles can be created right in the human body.

@igoditigodit
Sorry, but cosmic rays are high energy charged particles. And a human body has no way to make them.
Dan is a crank.

The cosmic rays are not particles but an electromagnetic decay, magnetic field. The particles form when two waves collide or when the wave collapses via observation. See pair production and double slit experiment.

They are indeed particles, and this was first observed by Victor Hess in 1912; who discovered that these particles were positively charged.
Later observations showed the majority to be Protons.
Personally I will go with the scientists who have studied them for a hundred years. The evidence is total.

@ytmoog Yes, the moment it is detected it becomes a particle, see double slit experiment. Before that the energy is a wave of probability, see uncertainty principal. Also see duality of light being both a wave and particle, potatoes potato's.

Even in the double slit experiment a particle is still a particle, even when it is a wave.
