Think all round GIA Excellent diamonds are the same? Think again. Many consumers are ignorant when it comes to purchasing a diamond online. The 4C's is a good start but teaches very little about the quality of the cut they are getting. In this tutorial we learn about one of the optical technologies we employ at www.goodoldgold.com to help us hand select diamonds with the finest optics. The FireScope (or DiamXray, Ideal-Scope, Light Path Scope) is a tool that shows both gemologist and layman how the facets on the pavilion of a diamond is functioning and whether they are reflecting light (as they should) or leaking light. This tutorial will show you the differences and how it translates to practical observation.
