@GeorgiaKev ....Yet, Colorado and New Hampshire are only among a handful of states that have more Republicans than Democrats and generally vote Republican.
-
@GeorgiaKev Many of the last 12 presidential elections have been partisan landslides, and most of those Republican, or George Wallace's presidential run. Georgia in particular remained very Democratic at the local level. While those Democrats were socially conservative, they were economic populists, contrary to the Republican fiscal conservatives. The reality is that many social ills in the south are related to demographics. I'm sure you wouldn't say New Hampshire or Colorado are backwards.
-
@JohnRhysMusician Understood, but as I said before, many people remained "Democrats" in name only. Just because someone is registered as a Democrat or chooses to vote in the Democratic primary doesn't make somebody a liberal. In the last 12 presidential elections, Georgia has only voted Democratic three (3) times (and two of those were for native son Jimmy Carter).
-
@GeorgiaKev Also, it wasn't until 2010 that more people voted in the Georgia Republican Primary than the Georgia Democratic Primary in history.
-
@GeorgiaKev Are you kidding? Civil Rights legislation has not had an economic impact on the South. The 1964 Civil Rights Act was actually greatly opposed by the Democratic caucus. It wasn't until LBJ had closed door meetings with Everett Dirksen and IL R senator to craft legislation that could be passed. Republicans overwhelmingly supported it, while Democrats were split. Republicans first made political inroads in the suburbs, as wealth has increased Republican supports has increased.
-
@JohnRhysMusician The South has progressed because of CIVIL RIGHTS. When southern states were finally forced by the federal government (controlled by Democrats) to end their idiotic policies of segregation and banning evolution from public school curriculum, they learned how to think outside the trailer park. The Republicans began their gradual takeover of the South in 1964 when the CRA was passed. Many pol's remained Dems in name but fully supported GOP policies--like Reagan's tax cuts.
-
@GeorgiaKev The Dixiecrats pushed the same populist economic policies (tariffs, minimum wages, etc.) that national Democrats did. I am really sorry for your ignorance of history, I am descended from confederate veterans and Dixiecrats, they were not fans of Republican politics. The South has only become more competitive since its economic growth and growing educational attainment.
-
@JohnRhysMusician Republican rule is a "new thing?" You've got to be kidding me. The "Democrats" who ran this state for more than a century were not "Democrats", they were DIXIECRATS. A bunch of backwoods rednecks who joined the Democratic Party after the Civil War because of their anger towards Lincoln and the abolition of slavery.
The manufacturing hub is in China and other third-world nations. Georgia, being part of the U.S., has a minimum-wage law that wealthy business owners avoid.
-
@GeorgiaKev Wow. Being from Georgia you should know that Republican rule is a new thing. The first GOP governor elected in 2002 and first GOP house in 2004 since reconstruction. Considering the Southern United States is the most rapidly developing and most economically viable region, being the new manufacturing hub some of those Republicans must be doing something right? I believe that Massachusetts could be better served by more balanced leadership instead of far-left corruption.
-
@JohnRhysMusician If you can find one state or local jurisdiction since the beginning of time that hasn't been corrupt, kindly let me know. As far as "one-party" rule is concerned, what about the southern states which are completely run by the Teapublicans? Talk about third-world status under one-party rule.

Where are those countless liberal progressives who were saying conservatism was dead?
If that was the case I guess it's true that the dead can indeed rise from the grave!
Let this be just the beginning. Keep the pressure on liberal progressives... do NOT back down now!
