It is lighter in weight, but feels just as smooth in use with electronic speed control to maintain pad rpm under pressure. Very nice machine, lovely ergonomically and very light weight. Only thing is the cost, it is more than the 9227, and if you are like me and prefer the heavier machines then the Makita will always win out.
