What assholes would downrate this video??? I mean really, why???
-
And how would you go about "getting to know" Dprjones?
(Like I said, it's not the organization "Doctors without borders" that I'd want to check out, but him, for the sake of argument.)
-
What's this got to do with atheists being or not being a religious group?
Ok, so your take would be don't donate to DPR if he ever has such a charity drive again, simple and squat?
-
You don't know who dprjones is? He's the author of this video. He started THIS atheist blogtv thing we're talking about.
I can't really contact him. He's too popular, he couldn't read all that mail. And what sort of contact information could be useful?
So you're saying I shouldn't donate to charity drives like this? Kind of kills the purpose don't you think?
-
Well but this is happening over the internet. So I couldn't exactly ask Dpr for a printed slip. I assume if it came in digital form it would be easy to fake one, so it would have to be physical?
And what if I don't get the transaction slip, cause it was a fraud? Then what, do I get my money back? I kinda doubt that, when I donate over such a site. Add to that, I would have entered my credit card number, allowing fraudsters to steal it.
-
As for checking wether their business exists: Dpr was making this fund on a website that allows you to collect funds like this, so he doesn't actually have a company himself. The company he claims to give to does exists. Like, how do I see if his claim that he can't abuse the money with the system on that fundraising website is correct?
-
Well I was asking, in general, *how* you check a website. The website I wanted to check was Dprjones'. The fund's over now of course. But like I said: in the future, how do you check these things?
-
Errrm...I replied to you cause I'm the one whose question you answered?
And I should know how I meant the question. This isn't about "Why should we bother to donate, is it so important to give money?", it's about "How do we know we're really giving our money to charity and not to an internet fraudster?" How do you check the authenticity?
-
No, the point is how do you know it's not a scam?
When you donate to a charity outside the internet you usually know for a fact where your money is going, e.g. cause you make a check to a specific organization. But here, technically, we're giving the money to dprjones, and if he *were* a conman, he could run away with it.
