The Summer Work Travel Program

http://www.alliance-exchange.org The Summer Work Travel Program is a public diplomacy tool and one of 14 categories in the U.S. Department of State's Exchange Visitor Program. It offers motivated international students the opportunity to experience America through a short-term work assignment, typically in resort and amusement park settings where students interact with Americans on holiday. These short-term placements offer international students an opportunity to finance their stay in the United States, while helping many tourist-oriented businesses cope with the demands of their busiest seasons. Students can stay for an additional month to further travel and explore America after the end of their program.

"So many people comment on how delightful it is to meet and to be helped by the international students," says Jane, an American employee at a hotel that takes part in the program.

"We're all human beings, and these kids bring out the best of their countries when they come to visit us," she adds, "and they take home a real high regard for the United States."
