  • Thanks, fledee, for all your work in patching this together. I've watched it half a dozen times already. While the current Broadway version is certainly better than the dreary 2001 Roundabout revival, it can't hold a candle to the original. This clip shows why: sumptuous costumes and sets, and endlessly inventive choreography by Michael Bennett. Broadway is so much the poorer for his passing away at the age of 44.

  • Thank you! Million thanks for having all this hard work dubbing and editing these videos. They are true gems. I'm sure many people will have their memories rekindled and those who never got to see the original production will have a chance to get a glimpse of the ground-breaking and marvelous production Follies was. Thank you.

  • A satire on the ultimate Ziegfield number, I saw this number in the Paper Mill Playhouse production, which was the most lavish. And perfect for Valentine's Day:

    Raindrops never rain,

    Every road is Lovers' Lane

    In Loveland,

    Where everybody loves to live.

A satire on the ultimate Ziegfield number, I saw this done in the Paper Mill Playhouse production, which was the most lavish ever, especially for the Loveland sequence.

  • I've never actually been literally taken aback by anything in my life until this video. I am a massive fan of Follies and to see this footage is giving me goosebumps like crazy. I've seen the usual clips of Follies but this seems brand new to me, what is the history behind this footage?

  • I will never ever forget seeing this. One minute Dorothy Collins (in the pink dress), Alexis Smith (in the red pantsuit), John McMartin, and Gene Nelson are confronting each other on that bare legendary Aronson set, Then music swells and out of nowhere and incongruously, Dreseden shepherds strut onstage, and in an instant the "Loveland" set descends. The four actors are now in the world of the "Follies" and out come the "Follies" girls. The costumes alone would break the bank of any revival.

  • @BalletBabyBoy No, not in this video, but he is about to make his entrance just as the video ends.

  • Is harvey evans in this?

  • Thank you so much for putting this together. Wow - this is amazing. The "lost" footage everyone hopes they could see. All of these videos from the original production are such a treasure. Thank you for this!

  • I like how at 1:34 the footage seems to change from b&w to color, like in The Wizard of Oz. Metaphorically, that's what Aronson's set did when the Loveland sets flew in.
