~~~~Brings back old memories~~~
~~~~This is not my movie and i did not modify it in any way all right go to The Thing (1982) - Universal Classic Revisited~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~

The Story

The Thing starts with a chase. A Norwegian helicopter pursues a lone dog across frozen Antarctic wastes, ending up at Outpost #31, crewed by a dozen Americans. The Norwegians seem intent on killing the dog, but manage to off themselves instead. The dog moves in with the Americans, but when placed in kennels, we get the feeling those Norwegians had the right idea about putting it down.

This is where the groundbreaking work of Rob Bottin, visual effects supremo, kicks in. Watch in astonishment as the dog turns itself inside-out, blooming a flesh-petalled orchid. Before the eye has time to take it all in, the beast then sprouts tentacles, throbbing like exposed nerve-endings. As it transforms, the creature attacks the surrounding dogs caged in with it. The assembled crew watch with jaws agape as the audience screams 'kill it!' they do, with fire.

The plot moves at speed, taking us to the remnants of the Norwegian base camp, revelations in the ice (some stunning visual effects shots of a partially uncovered saucer), then back to the American base, just in time for the winter storm to kick in, severing the team from the rest of the world.

  • All I have to say is wow. I watched the new "the thing" and I enjoyed it. Although, it didn't have much of an eerie feeling to it or a time that could make you "jump." So I felt like watching this one for the first time, and it is great. This movie actually made me jump! John Carpenter, you were a true artist

  • funny how mac was having trouble with the flamethrower. How the hell did he think he could torch palmer without crisping gary and childs??

  • It was brilliant how he devised a way to know who was infested.

  • pretty deep cuts with the razor blade.

  • 2:14... Here's where the fun begins....

  • 5:15 Palmer sees the knife.

  • Fuck, i've watched this like over nine thousand times, but the Thing's screams always scare the living shit out of me...

  • @PowerfulWorm Unlike Invasion of the Body Snachers, there is no original remains to be disposed off. Immitation covers all avenues: mind, body & soul. A direct attack will kill you. What emerges are two fake humans. The ever increasing collective pool of DNA is passed on. Things will know whos who. You will remain you for a certien extent if contaminated. Perhaps during your sleep, or during a lapse, the Thing's self takes over, as the real you passes away.

  • 04:08 KILL IT! KILL IT WITH FIRE!

  • @nyancatnatalie Oh yeaaah. I totally forgot about that, because I usually skip the dog part because of the dog scene, lol.
