When Larissa, Jeanne, and I set out to make a documentary, we wanted to explore something different, something out of the mainstream but still common enough to relevant. We decided on dreadlocks.
The hairstyle has been around for thousands of years - from the Naga hunters of Mongolia to members of royalty in Egypt, from Jewish Nazirites in the middle east to Rastafarians in Jamaica. Nowadays, it's just as common for people to lock their hair for aesthetic purposes as it is for people to do it for religious reasons. Either way, there are stereotypes that surround dreads - we set out to explore why.
Thanks for watching... let us know what you think!
