Today on The MaP (Marxville and Plateau) we feature the Marx #15765 set. This set includes a #490 plastic 0-4-0 engine with 'clicker'. The clicker is nothing more than a thin strip of metal under the forward edge of the cylinders. each time one of the drive rods hits it it makes a metallic 'click' sound. Basically a very cost effective (aka Cheap) way of adding sound to the locomotive.

These #490 engines have been a mixed lot for me. I sold one several months ago which was one of the best running engines I ever owned. The loco in this set had such a tight mechanism that I was afraid it wouldn't run at all, even with cleaning and lubing. BUT, id did in fact run, a little jerky at times, but you can see in the vid that it did quite well. Another #490 engine I have looks like a scared jack rabbit running around the track. I'll be posting that video as well.

The set also includes the slightly less common blue log dump car. The car in my set unfortunately has a broken spring. Other than that this is a no frills set - just engine, cars, track, and transformer, but a good beginner's set.

  • Shhhh! You're gonna wake up Batman. LOL

  • Great layout, I love the see the progress if this one being built up and great work on it. Also on a total side note this music makes me think of blues brothers 2000. Oh and I love the marx track with the original black road bed!! Great work and happy collecting!!

  • Thanks for sharing such a colorful set!

REALLY enjoyed the music. Reminds me of echoes of others: "Wipeout", and the classic from Iron Butterfly, and my favorite lyrics:" I don't wanna work, I just wanna beat on the drums all day!"
