Making a documentary about my father, longtime California conservationist and John Muir disciple, is going to be a little tougher than I had thought. When I learned that my father had been given six months to live, I wasn't quite sure if I should go; he left our family when I was five.

    This is a very endearing tribute to your father. Thank you for lending your father to us, and thank you for creating this film to help remind us of your truly remarkable father.

    Your father was definitely passionate about the trail across America and we spoke of that for a good half-hour one day.
