Thank you so much. I am in afghanistan and the camera is full of dust. I tried everything to clean it out and had no access to the cable. you have saved the day.

Thank you mate for sharing. Very good tip.

thanks so much for this - I really didn't want to spend a ridiculous amount on a proprietary AC adapter. there is the issue of the sensor being activated but I think I'm willing to give it a go to save $100 :)
-
@BlockAzo you need an AC adapter to use that setting - that is what this method avoids

perfect thanks worked realy well on my d100
man, I use the mirror lock up mode in meniu, you dont need to set the shutter speed until you get "buld"...:)

@BlockAzo D100 doesn't have that feature unless you but that cable :/ that's why i had to find another way to make it happen :D

One small problem with this method. On "bulb" with the shutter button depressed, the CCD image sensor is charged because it is trying to gather light. An electostatic charge attracts dust. The EH-5 adapter that Nikon sells for this purpose, opens the shutter WITHOUT charging the CCD image sensor. Also, leaving the shutter open for long periods on "bulb" causes the image sensor to heat up and invites stuck and/or dead pixels.
