Be Safe. Research Lightning safety Here:

Learn the basics of taking some lightning photographs. I share the ISO Aperture and Shutter speed I used to get some cool lightning shots. Apply these photography tips however you see fit in any long exposure situation. Enjoy your shooting.

  • Great tutorial! I like your style of explaining photography.Very cool and informative.

One question: Instead of using a shutter speed of 20sec, or whatever, and covering up the lens with your hands to avoid extra light after the lightning strikes, would using a remote switch and "bulb" exposure be more useful? Just release the shutter, and be done?

  • @Wattoman It sure would be better to use one of those but I did not have one on hand. Sometimes you have to make due with what you got. =o) Peace

  • Awesome tut dude. Quick question what sites do you use to display your work. I kinda lost faith in the place I used to upload photos too.

  • @Whatisright I don't really have any work up anywheres as of now besides my facebook. I am trying to learn to upgrade my crappy website so I can have a portfolio on it as well as a gallery to sell prints. But I guess that is all in the future for now.

  • Awesome photos. Also it helps if you have a good location to take the photos from and hope it doesn't rain lol. Last time I took lightning photos from my back yard and normaly here if you can see the lightning it is already raining so i had to take then from under cover and I didn't get a very good view.

  • if only I counted how many time he said "ya know," haha
