Chapter Eight: Impossible Odds

Kate POV

After that, she played one other song… I think it was “"Who Will I Be?"” from "Camp Rock", but I was so focused on what I’'d be saying in a few hours that it could’'ve been Miley Cyrus singing “"Best of Both Worlds"” and I wouldn'’t have known the difference. And then the song ended. Demi gave me a wink for good luck and I mouthed back, "“Thank you."”

And then…...

“"Run
Run like you do
I'’m chasin’ you
I'’m on your tail
Gaining fast
You’'re going nowhere…”..."

As Joe, Nick, and Kevin rose on a platform, I stared in horror. Kevin was going right towards me. While he looked entirely focused, I was afraid he'’d spot me. Luckily, he veered out of the way at the last moment and towards his mic. What felt like an eternity went by, and then finally…...

“"Pushin'’ me away!”"

The piano was played and the crowd screamed so loud I thought my ears would be destroyed. Unfortunately, I appeared to be alone in that opinion. Even Mary and Sophia were screaming. I caught a glimpse of Joe winking at Soph, who in turn shrieked louder then I'’d ever heard.

Nick: Thank you all so much for coming out today!
Audience: *screaming ‘"I love you Nick!"’ and such*
Joe: So, Nick'’s been quite inspired to write a song.
Kevin: *almost sadly* He decided he wanted to share it with you.
Audience: YEEEEEEEESSSSS…!
Nick: Glad you’re so pumped! Okay, I just thought of a name- yes, just now. This song is called, "“Not Happenin’”'"!

Once Nick had finished, the crowd screamed. Man, I really need to get some earplugs next time I come here. Unfortunately, just as I looked at Kevin, thinking about how the song reminded me of him, he looked straight at me.

Kate: *whispering* Oh no.

Kevin POV

{I did it! I kept my emotions in. The crowd really seemed to like Nick’'s song. How come he always writes the mega-hits? Haha.}

And then I saw her. The one girl there were impossible odds of me seeing again. Here. Now.

Kevin:*whispering* Oh no.

Joe just barely heard me and glanced over. He followed my gaze then looked back up at me, confused.

Kevin: I can’'t do this. I CAN’'T do this!
Joe: What is it, man?
Kevin: She- I- it-

And then I did something I never imagined doing.

I ran offstage, eyes watering.
