http://harveyhams.weebly.com/hybrid-dwarfs.html - The severe dangers of breeding hybrids. Please read.
This short video gives one example of why you should never risk breeding a hamster if it is a hybrid (dwarfs) or if you do not know its genetic background (any hamster species) - this includes petshop hamsters!
Breeding hamsters should be an enjoyable experience however please please make sure that you know what you are doing when you breed your hamsters. Dont just breed because you want babies, dont just breed because your hamster is cute.
Always do lots of research before breeding and make sure that your hamster is suitable to breed from. Certain genetics do not mix with good results, if you do not know your hamsters genetic history (the coat colours of its parents, grandparents and as many other generations) then NEVER breed the hamster. A common deformity is for the hamster pups to be born completely white without eyes and teeth. Do you really want to take that risk?
Please think before you breed!

can this white belly gene happen to winter whites?
coolgirl1234033 17 hours ago
@coolgirl1234033 No its only typically in Syrians, I've not heard of it happening in dwarfs. However you would still need to get the hammie from a breeder because pet shops only sell hybrids "Russians" - there is a link in the description to give you more details on the health problems hybrids have & why you must not breed them - if you buy them from NHC breeders they will not be inbred and they will not carry diabetes, neurological problems or have aggressive behaviour unlike many pet shop hams

and how would i know if the hamsters i bought has the "white belly gene"?
coolgirl1234033 17 hours ago
@coolgirl1234033 You will only know if you buy it from a breeder because it will have its pedigree (family history). If their ancestors have either a patterned coat or a coat which has a white belly then dont ever breed it with another patterned or white bellied hamster or one that has them in their close family history. Only breed those who carry 'white belly' with those who dont - these are called 'Self' colours. :)

Hi, I have previously gotten two long hairs, I know there genetic background , and I've spent a really long time studying about bred dig these hamsters and what to do when they get pregnant, but I'm still skeptical, what do you think?

@wolfedoutcats It sounds like you have done a great job preparing for breeding them but if you dont feel ready in yourself then there is no rush :) Breeding hamsters should be something you really enjoy doing so wait until you are happy with yourself and what you know. The most important part of Syrian breeding is knowing what coat colours you are breeding & to avoid the white belly gene, see if you can work out from your hams and their background what colours you will get. Good luck with it! :D
