The soundtrack is Mountain's ' Road goes on Forever ' live version of this classic. A small passage was edited out in order to complete the video sync. This video is my first foray into Win Movie Maker, the program does have some limitations.
The tall ship Soren Larsen & crew are featured as well as numerous Cape Cod area photos and historical images including one letter from sea.
The Whale photos are real and are not photoshop-ed in any way. Having seen them in their ocean environment one on one, We respect those great creatures of the sea.
Lyrics below.
Enjoy

Goodbye, little Robin-Marie
Don't try following me
Don't cry, little Robin-Marie
'Cause you know I'm coming home soon

My ships' leaving on a three-year tour
The next tide will take us from shore
Windlaced, gather in sail and spray

Fly your willow branches
Wrap your body round my soul
Lay down your reeds and drums on my soft sheets
There are years behind us reaching
To the place where hearts are beating
And I know you're the last true love I'll ever meet
And I know you're the last true love I'll ever meet

Starbuck's sharpening his harpoon
The black man is playing his tune
An old salt's sleeping his watch away
He'll be drunk again before noon

Three years sailing on bended knee
We found no whales in the sea
Don't cry, little Robin-Marie
'Cause we'll be in sight of land soon

Fly your willow branches
Wrap your body round my soul
Lay down your reeds and drums on my soft sheets
There are years behind us reaching
To the place where hearts are beating
And I know you're the last true love I'll ever meet
And I know you're the last true love I'll ever meet

  • I acquired the Nantucket Sleighride album on vinyl about forty years ago, and rebought it on CD a few years ago. Seeing your engaging video accompaniment to a long-liked song has overnight made it more atmospheric to me and enhanced my appreciation of it. Well done, and thank you for uploading your work.

  • @nomoresurfingforyou Glad to have brought it back to you again !

Thanks for the compliment. It took a good amount of time to do this vid and it was still not perfect, at least for me. Was using some generic programs and video formats to do it.

  • Brilliant video you done well getting it all in sync especially the rolling seas along with the ad lib ,.very good version of this song

  • @zennygreen thanks very much Z .

It took a long time to get the edits just right in sync. Gives me a whole new appreciation for proper video editing . And i have done a ton of audio post production !

  • The person to whom the song is dedicated, Owen Coffin, was a young seaman on the Nantucket whaleship Essex, which was rammed and sunk by a sperm whale in 1820. In the aftermath of the wreck, Coffin was shot and eaten by his shipmates. The Essex's story was recorded by its First Mate, Owen Chase, one of eight survivors, in his 1821 Narrative of the Most Extraordinary and Distressing Shipwreck of the Whale-Ship Essex.

  • @MaxVonStark Thanks for the background on this track. One should read the account. It is rivieting. As well as Poe's 'Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym' a similar story.

  • Anyone ignorant enough to deny that Mountain as a group and Leslie West as an individual were forces to be reckoned with in the world of rock music and guitar playing must never have listened to this..
