Warrick County Indiana tests their sirens every Saturday at 1:00 p.m. I haven't been able to record a siren in a long time, so I asked my dad to take me to this siren. The last few times I have been to Warrick County, the sirens have failed to go off. So I was kind of iffy about this one. But as you can see, it went off!

This siren is a Sterling M-10, with 16/16 port ratio. It was the only siren in the county until about 25 years ago, when several Sentry 10V's were put up in small towns. The county currently has 15 sirens, this Sterling, and the others 10's located throughout the county.

  • Sounds kinda like a 2001-SRNB, except that the rotor noise in the background is a different pitch. The wind-down is mellower than a 2001.

  • Very interesting, sounds like it's possibly a single phase one! It has that really non-linear windup that is a characteristic of repulsion-induction single phase motors, and it doesn't peak anywhere near what your average three phase 16 port M-10 does.
