Watch In High Definition! Every year from late November to mid December, the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum and its volunteers run their famed North Pole Limited Trains. The trains depart Campo depot at 7:00 PM on Fridays and 5:00 and 7:00 PM on Saturdays. These are the museum's most popular trains and sell out months in advance. This year, the consist was seven cars long and could carry around 300 people each trip. The train has a crew car, 4 coach class cars and two first class cars. The North Pole Limited is a fun filled trip for the whole family. Passengers arrive in the late afternoon or early evening at the beautifully restored Campo Depot to enjoy some good holiday cheer, plus a chance to talk to a couple Hobos that have set up camp next to the depot. Just don't let them trick you out of your ticket! First class passengers then board the train followed by the coach class passengers for a fun filled ride to the North Pole complete with elves, Christmas carols and stories, and complementary hot chocolate. Once the train arrives at the North Pole, Santa boards the train which will slowly return to Campo allowing Santa to meet with each child.

The video starts with a view of the outside of the train, plus a look at the Hobo camp and the decorated depot. We then take a detailed walking tour of the inside of the train. The consist consisted of the First Class Robert Peary Observation car, Coach cars 253 and 254, Baggage (Crew Car) 6700, Coach cars 350 and 252, First Class Santa Fe Observation Car 1509, and the locomotive, Southern Pacific (Former Cotton Belt) GP9 number 3873. We start in the Robert Peary and work our way up to the 1509 taking a detailed look at the luxurious observation cars and the decorations. Then, we take one final look at the Depot and the train before departing for the North Pole. The next video is taken from the Cab of the locomotive as we arrive at the North Pole. The final shot shows passengers getting off back in Campo.

Remember, the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum is an all volunteer organization. Special thanks to all the museum volunteers that have contributed to this year's North Pole Trains including the train crews.

Thanks also to the mechanical staff which worked countless hours to get the cars into service for the train, the restoration staff which worked many hours on the depot's waiting room, and Jack O'Lexey for building the Hobo Camp.

Be sure to visit http://www.psrm.org/ for information on the museum's trains, excursions, ticket sales, membership forms, and information on when you can buy tickets for the 2011 North Pole Limited Trains.

Enjoy!

  • @Locomotive450 I heard somewhere that CGRR leased 1809 and 1820, ran the wheels down and returned them damaged. Is Larry Rose still out there? If he is, he'll be the one to ask what color they will paint 2104.

  • @SouthernPacific8984 I actually don't know what color it's going to be. 1809 and 1820 need new wheel; otherwise, they'll be ready to run. Other than that, nothing is very close to being useable right now.

  • @Locomotive450 yeah, 2104 has been sitting primed for a year are so. Do you know what color they are going to paint it? Are the 1809 and 1820 still operational, how many diesels are operational or close to operational with minor repair?

  • @SouthernPacific8984 From what I know, the GP9 is going to have to be pulled soon for some major repairs. The 80 Tonner will probably be running for a while. However, we're also very close to getting our ALCO MRS-1 military road switcher number 2104 back into service to replace to replace 3873 until its repairs are finished. The Golden State to Division will be running on Saturdays and the Valley Flyer Railbus Adventure will be running on Sundays.

  • @Locomotive450 Oh, thanks. I have a question about psrm. Now that they are back to running the Golden State on weekends, will they be using the 3873 or the 80 tonner? I have cab ride tickets and I want to know what locomotive they will be using.

  • @SouthernPacific8984 Oh, the La Mesa Club. Yes, I am a member. To get into operating sessions, you have to contact the General Manager of the sessions. I can give you his contact info if you want to inquire about working at the next session.

  • @Locomotive450 Yes, The La Mesa Club. Aren't you a member?

  • @SouthernPacific8984 The club?

  • I joined the club about a year ago and ive operated about 15 times. How do u get into operating sessions? Do you sine up or ask the operator in charge?

  • @SouthernPacific8984 Yes, I am. Glad someone else likes 3873.
