well it seems to me the vast majority have melee weapons. and i see other weapon slots there. i figure if you just have your sword and your pistol you should be fine.

i wouldn't worry about that, since all the weapons in the game can be upgraded and you can get new powers and moves, so even if you use just one weapon there will be a big variety of attacks.
