  • This looks/sounds like a live performance--they sound great. I think it was from Hulabaloo--takes me back. thanks for posting

  • @buckize68 It's from a TV show called "Colosseum".

  • Excellent! Woody Allen as an MC?! Was this on Hullaballo?

  • @SeattleLA No, it was a TV show called "Colosseum" (February 1967).

  • @DocReasonable I noticed that the lead guitar appears to be plugged into an amp. Check the video at 2:25 and 2:38. You can see Jim's guitar has a cord plugged in to it.

  • They had good songs. Seems like the same song writer wrote most of the songs. They were underrated, I think the costumes did them no justice either.

  • @dougalmac54

The bass on this is live -- totally different from the record.

  • This isn't a live performance. if you notice the only one with an actual microphone is Mark Lindsay. And no one is plugged in to any amps. And there's no mic on the drums. This was made to sound like they're playing "in the room" by pumping some extra reverb on top of the record track they're lip-syncing to. Nothing against The Raiders, it was a common practice on TV shows, even The Beatles and Stones did lip-sync performances.

  • @ebf1957 That makes sense...I've seen some color versions of vintage b&w vids on yt. In fact, I posted a color clip of Neil Diamond a couple weeks ago that was already here in b&w. Thanks!

  • @bze2nlz4

The show was shot in color, but some shows were taped in black in white due to the fact that in that time videotape color was expensive.

  • WOW! At least this is more 'live' than most of their performances - -the lead vocal and bass are real, the rest is from the record, but sounds cool!

  • Didn't Colosseum come on before Jackie Gleason?

  • @Stuckinthe6Ts I think you got your wish..

  • I also had a MAJOR crush on Fang. Wrote my first fan letter to him. I saw them back in 1966 in Chicago, it was the first concert I ever attended!!!!!

  • Leotards? wow. supergay.

  • @sandinator Fang!!! Was that Phil Volk??? I LOVED him! He wore a GREAT pair of tights.....er...street pants....

  • Where the Action Is,, with the intro song done by FReddy (Boom Boom) Cannon,, loved it,, loved all those local dance American Bandstand knockoffs,, someone should have figured out how popular they were,, LONG before MTV,, great memories

  • Where the action is.... anyone remember? The show the raiders got thier start! Loved it!

  • @whyyeseyec I get the Impression Mark Lindsay liked to perform live, however it was sometimes difficult to mic for live TV and/or record company people wanted to showcase the actual recording. This sounds like Mark's vocal is live but most of the backing track is pre-recorded. Maybe a few guitar parts were live, but the background vocals and drums are most definitely pre-recorded. Anyway, this means the Tom-Toms were not necessary for TV. Basic Drum kit just for show.

  • I had a huge crush on Mark Lindsay back then. Huge. I still love their music. They were very brave to wear those costumes. Especially the tights.

  • Where in the heck is the tom-tom on that drum kit? How silly to set up like that. They did have tom-toms back in the 60`s doncha` know...

  • Street clothes, very funny Woody. Show Fang more

  • This is an awesome song by Paul Revere & The Raiders!

  • More cowbell; less Terry Melcher.

  • I really like the stage set up for the 'Colosseum' show. Its really different and gives a nice amount of room and space. :)

  • This post put such a smile on my face.
